The continuous striving of product designer and manufacturer to further streamline their product lifecycle cost led in many cases to the extension or outsourcing of the Engineering Services function to engineering services specialists that are engaged cost effectively only when needed. Alex Herman Engineering will take the hardware design output through board design, layout, mechanical, thermal, analysis, prototype fabrication, cost reduction, independent verification, regulatory compliance (i.e. FCC, FDA, ETSI) and pilot build (see Manufacturing Engineering).
The following is a summary of engineering services offered:
- Regulatory compliance (FDA, FCC, ETSI).
- Clarify and plan (schedule and cost) the regulatory compliance services requirements. Schedule and manage the effort to its completion.
- Patent application evaluation and technology licensing advice
- Extract and convert the design talent into company patents (therefore increasing company IP). Serve as a liaison between the design team and the patent attorney. Review and enhance atemt application before they reach the attorneys.
- Early company life technical management (engineering and manufacturing) for young companies
- Early stage engineering and manufacturing management for young companies with design talent.
- Management includes nurturing young talent in the critical areas of design to market and design to cost.
- Product cost reduction project (via re-engineering, improved Supply Chain and/or production environment /location)
- Scan for opportunities for product cost reduction (BOM, Supply Chain, technology enhancement).
- Production line transfer to low cost territories (inside the US, or LCC – China, Singapore, Eastern Europe)
- Production line transfer to low cost territories (US, China, Singapore, Eastern Europe)
- Design and production troubleshooting/cost overrun in the field, lab or during production
